Description

Samba Africa offers placement to work in public health, working towards better access and health awareness in several communities in Ghana.

Our aim is to support national efforts to ensure that communities in Ghana lead healthier lives through improved health practices. In support of those efforts, Samba has three goals under this project:

  • Increase the knowledge and skills of community members to improve water, sanitation and hygiene practices and reduce diarrhea diseases;
  • Increase the knowledge and skills of youth to improve their health and well-being through health and life skills education; and
  • Increase the knowledge and skills of women and caregivers to adopt practices that contribute to   healthy pregnancy, healthy newborns and children under 5.

Join our health prevention in Ghana and get involved in hands-on medical work that benefits the local community. It’s a learning experience that gives you a deeper insight into the healthcare challenges people face in developing countries.

Ghana faces a double burden of disease. These include infectious diseases such as malaria, as well as those resulting from lifestyle changes, like diabetes. Furthermore, many people living in rural, disadvantaged areas do not have regular access to medical services.

You’ll help us provide these communities with free health screenings and basic healthcare services. You’ll do this by joining medical outreaches, as well as visit schools to raise awareness around healthcare issues.

Typical day

Volunteers working in this project in Ghana can expect to work daily between 8am-3pm including the following tasks:

Participating and/or organizing educational workshops aimed at reporting on topics of general relevance such as hygiene, healthy eating habits, vaccination, etc.

Educating about disease prevention, harmful addictions, eating disorders, etc

Promoting health maintenance within families, communities and populations

Educating on improving the environment of the community

Promoting clean living, optimizations of resources, implementation of different strategies, changing habit

Participating in trainings etc
